yes, that's right. posting another post about my slackness with posting. but I've come to a decision.
Blogs + trying to do well at maths b, chemistry & biology = complete meltdown.
So.
I am going to keep the blog, but there will be many prolonged period of time in which i hardly blog at all. I am tempted to completely delete this all together, but say, during holidays and slower periods of school work times, i think it would still be nice to update a bit.
As i said this is just documentation of the things i like and etc. I do want to delete it, but i have to slow down (although i don't think i could go any slower than at the moment).

p.s. I'm going to New Zealand on Friday, for New Zealand secondary schools rowing champs. (yeah, Maadi Cup, whatevs). So if anyone wants to drop on by Lake Karapiro, and hunt me down amongst like 2000 people, feel free. Actaully. Probs dont bother, it would be a huge mish.

So I'm back from my escapades in Tasmania. It was so epically cold. So cold that I had to wear like 5 layers of clothing, and therefore had to waddle around like a penguin because of the restrictiveness of 5 layers of clothing. I can't really handle cold weather. At all.
And I didn't actually do any sight-seeing there because a. my days were spent at the rowing course and b. i was too tired to see anything anyway and c. the countryside is prits much exactly the same as New Zealand except a bit browner so it wasn't anything new. The rowing was good. Weather was crap and water had like whitecaps. Not perfect conditions but whatevs trevs.
Anyhow. So before i went, Marizzle and I had a bit of a chill sesh at mine, and i took all the photos off her camera that i wanted. And guess what was in there. Photos from the day at Mooloolaba, where we took my header. Fun stuff.

See this jacket here. Well, it has become my mission in life (along with a list of like 50 other things) to recreate it. Which means having spare time, finding it in an op shop, and sewing on the gold strips and gold buttons. SO KEEN.

I made a skirt with some denim material i acid washed yonks ago. It's pretty much the king of freaking-awesome-ville.
But, that's another story.

Oh how i dream about those shoes...

Sorry for the lack of updating this week. I have been very busy with school work and trying to get everything done. Because, you see, I'm flying to Tasmania tomorrow for the Australian Rowing Championships. It's the regatta I've been training for the last 4 or so months for, and the reason i didn't go to Germany last September-December with my class. So yeah, kind of hectic. I'm looking forward to go to Tasmania and seeing the place, except there's the ever looming final, Thursday morning, which is kind of spoiling it for me. Vaairrrrr nervous.

Chasseyyy Pommie and I did have a bit of a chill sesh at my place last night though, and we took some crackkerrr photos (but not really, just outfit ones), but unfortunately we couldn't upload them onto my computer because didn't have a memory stick reader or something. Sorry for the slackness.

oh yeah, from my last post, i don't think i actually said i play the flute. Some of you guys muct know Stravinsky's Firebird pretty well... maybe

I'm going to pick my kids up from school and have all the mothers talking. My house will look like a shambles to outsiders, but really it will be full of the most wonderful memories of exotic places. That's my dream for say, 30 or 40 years...

At the end of this year we have a semi-formal. And it's a dress up one. So everyone rocks up as disney princesses and ninja turtles and sailor moons and whatnaught. Today, while we were supposed to be practicing protest songs in music, we were googling and brainstorming over what to go as. Right now I'm stuck between Kim Possible and Poison Ivy from batman. Don't laugh, it's a pretty tough decision hahaha....

Today was a big brainstorming day. Brainstorming my english assignment, fashion parade outifts, semi-formal outfits, and what to wear with this vest... still not really sure what to do with it. To chop, or not to chop...

Sorry for the lack of presence this week, it's been a pretty up and down week. On Tuesday one of my best friend's mother passed away. It was completely unexpected and we are all still in shock. She was the most amazing woman i have ever met, and did so much for the community, i can't even begin to describe. She was always so positive and vibrant and had a beautiful imagination and personality.
It has been a tough week, but hopefully things will steadily, start getting back to as normal as possible.

We had a plain-clothes-day/valentine's day thing at school today. as per every year actually.

sorry about my bathroom as the background. the best i could do when it's dark at night. my room is an absolute mess. and so is the whole house really.

this is my procrastination at its finest. i was supposed to be doing homework at this time. note: ripped up sheets from 2 page english task 'about me', and the magazines i read instead.

First of all, with all the bush fires around Victoria and South Australia, I hope none of you were caught out in it. It really is unbelievable that one end of the country is caught up in raging fire, while the other end is completely flooded out. Bad stuff.

I'm pretty sure most of you own/ have read/ have perused this book before. But I'm going to post about it anyways because a. all i'm wearing during the week these days is uniform and pjs; b. i love the collagey-ness of it; and c. she really uses my kind of sarcasm :)
So here are some of my favourites from the book, Like I Give A Frock.

Oh man the heat. Anyone else on the verge of melting away into oblivion? yesterday it was 38 degrees preeetyyyy much the whole day. and in our big thick school skirts... what a killer. Hopefully today will be better.

So I went away again this weekend. Which makes it the 3rd weekend in a row. I am so psyched for this coming weekend to chillax, maybe check some markets out, reacquaint myself with whats happening in the outer-rowing-circle world, and actually wear something a bit interesting (as opposed to rowing-clothes and 5-hour-car-trip-clothes).
Now let me acquaint you all with a few things i have been... well loving isn't the right world... lusting after isn't the right phrase either.... i dunno. pondering. lately.
yes, pondering over the amazing-ness, and frantically trying to come up with ways of incorporating these few things into my wardrobe. with a few of my own things mixed in between.

I'm am totally stuck for free time at the moment. So this will be a quickie. School is so time consuming. But on a complete change of subject, anyone else totally hanging out for winter like me? I am so keen on bringing out the thick stockings and woolen socks and scarves. So psyched for scarves. And while perusing a friends vogue spring rtw collections magazine, you know, the one that was out like in Paris or somewhere, i was stricken by the felt hats at Diane Von Furstenberg. They are amazing. I really need a big floppy felt hat, for those winter days when my hair is in pretty much one big dreadlock. Actually, one right now to cover my mess of hair would be good.

I also bought an amazing vest in an op shops the other day, and I am stumped as to whether shorten it, or keep it the same. Because it's a really weird shape, and kind of flares out at the bottom. Although I'm really not inclined to hack away at the amazing fabric, i think it's a bit too much of an old-fashioned cut, and could do with a bit of a crop. Ideas?

My obsession with peacock feathers never ceases to grow. and has now even transferred to my art visual diary. The only solution for this obsession would be a pet peacock, i think...

I couldn't wait til i got back to post this. I made a peacock feather headband/headpiece thing. It's out of 1 peacock feather, a random button, and 2 brown feathers underneath (that you can kind of see/ my hair is covering)

ignore my tshirt. yes the holes in the neck bit were intentional. a kind of let's-see-what-happens-when-i-try-and-shred-this-tshirt attempt gone miserably wrong

so I've now been back at school a whole week. and it is SO hard. well actually just i guess because i havent actually done proper school in about 4 months. i forgot how you actually have to be quiet, and listen, and take notes, and then you have to actually understand. oh man, i went chemistry, biology, maths, all in a row today. my brain is so burnt out and all a big jumble of cells, organelles, funcitons, relations, compounds and elements. tough stuff. back to the books again for the year i guess...

i found this old photo on my computer the other day, one of the few of my actual folders that was backed up on the external backyuppythingy. look how cute my brother was!! it's funny because hes a giant 6 foot galoot now. and check my sick floral dress in the background haha

so the actual point of this post is to show you these poofy, bloomer-esque shorts i made a few weeks back. i was in desperate need of some lightweight shorts because the heat was killing me, so i just chucked whatever material i could find together, gathered it a bit and voila!

i'm going to buy some new fabric markers, and a good pair of stockings today, and attempt to make those peacock feather stockings a few people have been making. well by making i mean draw. and by a few people i mean the clothes horse i think, and a few others i cant remember exactly who, very sorry.
so yeah, see how that goes.

This is my first post since I started the year back at school, how exciting! All is very normal-but-bot this year. I have none of my friends in my classes, which is good because i have no one to talk to about non-school-related-things anymore, but it also makes class about 50 trillion times boringer. Anyways, so Chloe from countrybelle, has started a tag, and so i might help get the ball rolling.

describe your personal style.
I don’t even have a personal style. I can never make up my mind as to what ‘style’ I want to channel. Only thing I do wear a lot of is colour. I can’t remember ever going out in a full black, or monochromatic outfit. That’s my aim for this winter.
what are the staples in your wardrobe?
White t-shirts. Denim. Lots of denim shorts and jeans. Oh and scarves. I adore scarves.
what's your signature look?
Well my fail-safe, default outfit is white t-shirt, high-waisted shirt of whatever colour or pattern takes my fancy, some kind of belt (usually brown leather), and a scarf or necklace. Quick and easy.
what inspires you?
I could rattle of a list of things, but it’s pretty much the same as EVERYONE else slightly creative and non-poppy-tweeny-bopper would say. But I do really love textiles, and all the amazing fabrics out there, and how they are cut, draped, sewn etc. into amazing creations.
who is your fashion muse?
Aahhh don’t really have one. But I have to say, I am always amazed by the way Margherita Missoni dresses.
favorite purchase of all time?
There is NO way I could have one favourite. Although thinking really hard. My fringe bag, and vintage Pierre Cardin mesh bag.
biggest splurge?
I don’t really spend large amounts of money on one item. Shoes for $140 once ahaha, my docs were $200 but mum bought them so it doesn’t really count. That’s what happens when you’re a school kid with no job.
what's your beauty routine?
Wash my face, put on mascara & eyeliner and a bit of concealer. Not really into foundation or any other make up at the moment in this heat.
what jewelry do you never take off?
Aaah, I don’t wear one piece of jewelry all the time. Probably my watch if anything.
what are you wishing for?
A new sewing machine and overlocker. A really simple to use overlocker. And for someone to tell me a really good hairdresser in Brisbane who cuts curly hair well.
what are your obsessions?
Red Lips. Dreaming about about my future career, house, wardrobe and life. Oh and a current obsession is the Ralph Lauren Spring 09 rtw collection.

I was tagged my Lorraine at Hello Chuck to do the 4th folder, 4th image thing. And it's excellent timing haha, because i don't even HAVE 4 folder anymore. Infact, all i have in my documents is a singular photos folder, where i went on a saving spree one night and re-saved all my photos of my photobucket account. And the 4th photos is....

...not very interesting, seeing as i posted it like not even a month ago. But for those who are interested, it's Emma Watson for Vogue Italia.

So it seems to me lately that quite a few people have been sharing their various inspiration books, folders or whatever they may use to keep their ideas (whether it be fashion related or not), swimming in the fore-front of their minds.
Soooooo,
here is mine. Just a brown paper, spiral bound book. Pretty simple, tacky (sticky tape is sooo fast and effective), and rough around the edges, but hey, it does the job.
My book is a mixture of: various collections i liked enough to make a page for (this is Philim Lim)...

...magazine clippings, and the fashion sections from the random glossy 'lifestyle magazines' that we get in our mailbox every week...

...some weeks the fashion sections are just too amazing to forget about...

...and then theres a few of my own sketches, when late at night i have a brainwave, and need to draw them down...

...then of course i have street style pages...

...and even my friends feature!!...

Ok, I'm going to start fresh now. It's the new year, my computer is back, I'm still devastated that my photos are gone, but I'll just start new, and it'll all be fine.
I down to the Gold Coast for a night about a week ago, to stay with some friends. And we found an interesting antique shop loaded with Betty Boob paraphernalia, with other nick-nacks amongst it. And while looking through a pile of vintage 70s material, I found a German fashion/patterns magazine from autumn/winter 1961/62.
It's really interesting flicking through the pages, reading what i can of it, and observing the amazing fashions of the early 60s.

Oh and the magazine is called 'Beyer'

I am very sorry for the lacking in the blog posts front. My computer is still broken.
And to make things even better, the computer man called up my dad last night to tell him that he couldn't save anything from our computer. It is all lost. All my photos from 2006-now are gone. And I'm most disappointed that my inspiration folders have all been lost.

I'm using my brothers laptop, and so thats why the outfits posts are a no go. I assure you, I'll have alot to post about once my computer is back.

And I go back to school on Tuesday!

Life is very good at the moment. All my friends are gradually arriving back from europe; i have feathers braided into my hair; i have 3 new books full of amazing photographs and fashion to inspire me; i am not transparently white anymore after my week at the beach and the weather is amazing. Hopefully that doesn't sound too shallow.

Today i just chilled with friends at the shops. Yeah, I know, prits exciting.

This is from new years eve, when 70,000 other people gathered with us on one beachfront/road/restaurant and shopping precinct to celebrate the new year. and my birthday. It was and epic night full of funness, and a great way to welcome the new year and end what was one very chillaxed week of swimming, shopping, tanning and drinking coffee.

So i started the week just with my family,

And then i went to Woodford Folk Festival for a day. And it was amazing. One but mish-mash of colour and hippies and amazing music and amazing people

And then for the last few days some friends came up to the beach. And the weather was amazing

Ok, so i'm not really one to wear those crazy out-there outfits. The ones that look like you've put on everything lying on your floor and walked out the door. You know the ones that are so crazy but somehow manage to look really cool. Alot like Queen Michelle and the fashion void that is DC. Well anyways. This is my first try.

And the purpose of these photos? mainly just displaying the $1 tweed jacket i picked up from Vinnies the other day, and the skirt i made yesterday out of calico i tie-dyed and intended to put on my wall, but never did.

my Christmas tree is really funny this year. Because we are going to the beach on boxing day, so we didn't want to buy a tree because we would hardly be there for it, and my parents hate fake trees. So, we pulled in a plant in a pot from the garden and used that! It's a pretty epic tree.

Christmas in 2 days. weehoo. mum's trying to go all french with the food, because we are having french relatives over.
As much as i think it's tacky, I'm going to dress in Christmas colours for a laugh.

We found a bag full of knitted santa's in our drawers the other day. They're from my great aunt, she gave them to us in about July. At the time i thought it was kinda weird, but hey, they've made the tree a bit more interesting!

I'm watching that Genie in a bottle TV show. I don't actually know what it's called, but hey it's funny. And the hair is so perfect it's ridiculous.
Today I'm going op shopping with some friends i haven't seen in a wwwhillleee. We are going to try and hunt down some new places. And i scabbed $20 of my dad, and so hopefully he won't ask for change.

My camera is so retarded, some times the flash goes crazy and other times it doesn't really work at all.

I'm seeing twilight today! How exciting, I'm quite looking forward to it. Although I haven't actually read the books, because i didn't want to fall into the Edward Cullen obsession, but I also dislike seeing movies before I've read the book version, so I'll just have to see how this goes.

At the moment i wish i was so many places, other than here. Sweltering and with the task of Cleaning the floors in front of me.

I had an interesting weekend. Went to Bundaberg, which is about 300km north of Brisbane. It was, as is everything in my life these days, for rowing. And it was unbelievably hot. 38 degrees (Celsius)infact was how hot it was one of the regatta days. And i had to race in that heat and ohh man, it was a mission.

So after the regatta, we spent a few days in Bundaberg. But thre's actually NOTHING to do there. And it rained aswell, which made it even worse. So we went to the Bundaberg Rum distillery, and the showed us how you make rum. But we had to wear under 18 passes, for when it came to the testing time haha. How disappointing.
This here is Alana outside it. Quite funny, we had to wear enclosed shoes, and all she had was runners BAHAHAHA

So the extent of my outfits has been shorts and tshirts and summer dresses, not very interesting. And this is about as good as my outfits got...

Oh! and results from op shopping on Thursday. Bought the sickest high waisted skinny jeans, in a washed out light denim colour. But what makes the really wicked is the LACE PANELS in the sides by the pockets and ankles. These photos don't really do them justice, as most photos, and i can't bear the thought of putting them on in this heat. But they'll be on constant rotation in a few months, or more like 6 months, i expect.

Yes. 2 Months Late. But hey, thats what happens when you live in Australia and it has to be air-freighted in. This makes me want to go out and buy all different laces, and feather, and denims, and sew them all together into one big mish-mash of wearable art.

today was really hot. actually the past week has been really hot. so my days at the moment go a bit like, wake up, read emails, go out/make something for a few hours, come home, sleep, go to gym, come home, go to bed. Yeah, pretty interesting life ha. So it's getting a bit boring.
But, hey, I still manage to find some fun.
Like,
This beach bag i decided needed some sprucing up. So i brought out the oil paints. I don't know if oil paints will last though...

And these linen shorts i made. very simple. and rather see-through. But i was just testing the pattern, so they turned out rather nicely. burda style is my saviour, when i need a quick pattern fix...

And i also bought some el-cheapo tshirts. But they didn't really suffice, when it came to my need for some interesting summer tees. But a few sharpie pens and shredding later... and they're looking pretty fine.

ok, I'm ultra slack. But lately, it's been really hot to wear anything worth posting (except friday night i made and effort, but hey, too late now), and I've just been gathering up all my inspiration for now. This the my pick of the month of November.

Firstly, red shoes. I have a thing for red shoes, and have been scouring the world wide web for them. I have to say it wasn't overly successful, but i did find a pair of Dorothy shoes that have definitely gotten me excited. Oh and Galliano did do a mean take on them aswell, above.

Next, these girls on garance dore got me really excited. Ultimate in simplistic, laid-back cool. And all that blonde hair really is amazing...

And finally, these cut-out leggings by A.F. Vandervorst, really have me excited. Might call for another DIY session in the near future.

Oh I've been shredding a few tshirts the last week. I have say it's time consuming, but rather relaxing. And also very satisfying when people point out 'uhh, you're shirt is really ripped'. Thanks bud, i didn't realise half the front of my shirt is torn. Haha.

i've kinda been caught up in school finishing for the year, exam mode, training mode for a while, hence the sparse blogging.
these photos. a few weeks old. i can't even remember if i ended up wearing this out, but i've got a sneaking suspicion that it got to hot and i took tights and docs of and changed for gladiators. oh and i was also having a sped-face day, hence the croppage of my face in the photos. last photo is just supporting material.

I just have 3. 'points' i want to make today. None of which are really all that important, or even interesting you could say, but hey.
Firstly: I really love this dress. It was at a stall at the Aotea Square Markets, in Auckland. And i took a photo of it because a) i didn't want to pay $90 for it and b) i want to make it, and need to remember it.
The back was a lot like a leotard, with a low scooped back, made out of that white material (but i didn't take a photo of the back because, well, it wasn't possible to take a photo of the back subtly, without attracting the attention of the girl manning the stall who didn't seem particularly friendly).

Secondly: Marielle and I are possibly the funniest people I know. Actually well, just this situation when we made this poster, representing the values and themes in the book Looking for Alibrandi, were we being particularly funny. I know no one understands it, but 'runs into giant eel', and 'wobbly boot' cracks me up everytime.

Thirdly: I've needed to clean my mirror for about a year now. And this photo made me realise how shockingly dirty it actually is. Oh dear.

Those are my thoughts for the day. Hope everyone has such an enlightening day as me.

so today im kinda of just going to rock up to school 3 hours, so to fill in my time, i had a bit of a put-on-the-colourfullest-clothes-you-own spree. quite entertaining. but don't worry, my morning hasn't been all play, i did write up my music assignment, and read my book for English. quite productive.

ha this was halloween skirt. don't really know what i was. mermaid maybe... or some half-hearted hippy...

Today was interesting. I slept on the floor in maths, sat there all dazed and confused in German, practiced flute alone in a room in music and attempted to write a movie review in English.
Well... it wasn't a very productive day... and my review failed miserably, seeing as i only watched 20 minutes of the movie.

I really wish that this Chloe campaign would come back...

Pretty much my favourite... hopefully i'll be a bit more interesting next time... i really am in a nothingness/everyone-should-feel-sorry-for-me mood. Yeah, I know, pathetic.

1. Google. I love it how like on random days the main Google sign thing is like a different picture. I always save them when i see them. I have one from every day of the Olympics :)

2. Sam Sparro. Ok, so not really into his music that much. But he is pretty much the coolest performer, and wears the RADDEST clothes. Anyone see him at the arias?? In his navy-coloured-velvet blazer, nerd glasses and silver shoes.

3. BurdaStyle. www.burdastyle.com I have spent hours on there. Just trawling through all the free patterns, looking for inspiration. It's pretty much really relaxing.

Yes. I got my bike. I walked into my room when i got home from the airport, and BAM there was my bike. Just sitting there in the middle of my room, (Although bikes don't really sit), looking beautiful.

So although i got it a week ago, i waited until i could actually be bothered to take a photo of it in full glory. Not just some half-hearted photo in my ugly garage.

Oh my cruiser, how lovely.

Oh and as this photo does not clearly show, my mum bought me a pair of tan coloured gladiators today. And the photo makes them look alot more jesus-shoe-ish. But they are all buckley and studded on top. VVerryy Nniceee.

I got back form New Zealand yesterday.
It was cold, and the heat over here is very much appreciated.

ohh the heat today is horrendous, all of a sudden BAM and it's hot. why does this bother me? because it means braving the heat in my docs, in an effort to break them in.
Although it is working.
And i feel a trillion times cooler than normal walking in them.
So hopefully these efforts will pay of, and soon they will be the most comfortable pair of shoes i own.

Today has been an interesting day so far. Woke up, went to the gym, as per usual, and then me and mum headed into the Valley. Why? in search of Doc Martens. Firstly we didn't even know how to get in there, because she never goes in there, and i only ever catch the bus, so we drove around until we kinda found it, parked in a parking lot, and searched around until we found the Doc Marten shop itself.
Then hits my first wave of disappointment: They didn't have my size in the copper-metallic ones i wanted, and weren't getting anymore. This news was also delivered from a very un-sympathetic dodgery old man, and i wanted to punch him.
So we drove to DFO to try and get the poppy docs, i previously had wanted. And once again they didn't have them in my size, and weren't getting any. But i didn't have any urge to punhc this sales lady because she was nice and helpful. So we decided just to try on some in black, to get my size, and wait for the new season Docs.

So I tried them on. Loved them sooo much. AANNNDDD convinced mum to buy the black ones :)
So now i have my very own pair of original Docs.
Black, hard leather. Veryyy nice.

Although, with the hard leather, they take a bit to break into them and mould to your feet, so at the mo, they aren't OVERLY comfortable. But they will be... eventually.

also, i ordered this AA mustard skirt a while ago, and they sent me a grey unisex zip-up hoodie instead. And now i've decided i can't be bothered to send it back, also in fear that they'll never send me my skirt, and they hoodie is cool aswell.
So i'm going to keep it, and it will be handy for when i go to New Zealand in 2 DAYS!
But the max. temperature for next week is forecast to be like 16 degrees... i'm screwed.

So i've been having a bit of an extreme creative streak lately.
I've made 3 skirts, 1 top and dyed 2 pairs of shoes within the last 2 weeks. So i thought i would share my latest shoes creations.
I started off with a pair of $12.99 Kmart shoes, and shoe dye, and ended up with some weird rainbow-connection thing happening!

And my friends flew out to Germany last night. It was sad, but they are going to have a brilliant time and send me so many good clothes, that will compensate!

I've realised this has turned more into a look at what i did today, look at what i think is cool blog. Which i guess is fair enough, and sort of follows the clothes bandwagon, because all i find cool, and pretty much everything i do revolves around shopping and fashion. Enough blubbering. About a week ago Ella, Marielle, Sai, Marni and I decided we deserved the day off school, and went to Mooloolaba for the day.
Unfortunately we picked a pretty dodge day in terms of weather, and sun factor, but nonetheless we had heaps of fun, and turned it into more of a let's-take-hundreds-of-photos-like-tourists kind of day and it was good.

well today was a very happy day. i went into the city to find a hat for states on the weekend, and allergy drops for Ella. so we roamed around looking like tourists, with our map out trying to find our way to wickham terrace, which we did after a while, and then we dropped in david jones for a bit of a browse. so the new david jones is as close to designer clothes as we will probably ever get, so we were just soaking up the amazing-ness of all the designer shoes in particular. and as we were browsing the miumiu section, guess which shoes we saw.

man oh man, when i saw these shoes, my heart started racing. they are even more amazing in real life.

i am bursting with excitement. today i went shopping with mummy. not expecting too much. well not expecting to get anything at all really. so mum and i hunted around, bought a mossimo bra etc. etc. then we kinda browsed around myer for a bit (ohhh myer i know and stumbled across the Hi There diffusion collection Karen Walker made for myer. And all because Karen Walker is a kiwi i suspect, my mum started raving about how she knew i'd love the clothes and how she wanted to get me somethings from it (she doesn't enjoy it when i don't wear 'normal' clothes). And so we found this SWEet skirt, it was love at first sight, and she bought it for me. And i didn't even have to beg/grovel for it. She actually offered.
And because a. the usual story of me not being able to find the camera

i love the 90s

I know I'm not fully entitled to may big statements on 90s fashions, seeing as i was only around for what? 7 years of it, and about 4 of those i can hardly remember.
But 6-year-olds can still watch TV, so what i do remember, is deeply inprinted. And I've noticed a bit more hype lately on fashion that was the 90s, so why not discuss what i remember as a snotty little kid?

Well, firstly, Full House. Yes, it was my favourite show for a number of years. And jsut last night, i was youtubing some my the favourite 'puh-lease' and 'i don't think so mister' moments, ala Michelle Tanner.
Anyways, the clothes. One word from my memory to describe the clothes, would be bright. Oh and cropped. I remember a lot of cropped singlets, and i think S-Club-7 wore them to their death.
Bright t-shirts, big flowery/surfer pattern cotton shorts, subflower of straw hats etc. Classic.

And the jeans. I can only remember wearing jeans with big flowery-motifs down the sides of them, but I do have the faintest memory of my mum rocking the jeans more like this. And my memory must be right because i pulled out an old pair of hers, form the bottom of her closet about a month or two ago.

And sure, there was the huge grunge look that happened in the 90s. But my favourite part?
The daggy-ness.

And even the SATC girls didn't always get it right, although somehow, they still have an effortless-chicness about them.

Red Booties, Lace Collars and Everything Inbetween.

Firstly, I have to say, I wish all you children going into winter happy times, rugging up in layers upon layers of clothing, to defend against the cold, but somehow still stay stylish and individual. I, on the other hand, am greatly looking forward to soaking up the sun's rays, riding around on my cruiser (which is arriving at the end on September) ala The Cherry Blossom Girl.

In other news. Lace Collars: completely and utterly entranced by them. Aren't they just so perfect? And the take Elinkan made, reminds me of lemon sorbet, and maids and sailors all in one. And quite suprisingly (although it is often the highlight of my Wednesday afternoons), Brisbanenews also featured a lace collars in their fashion spread- not in the same amazing-ness, but kudos for giving it a go.

And Red Booties. Actually not only red booties, but all kinds of red shoes, are high on my radar at the moment. They are such statement pieces, and every time i see some bold individual wearing them, i get really excited. And when i see them an amazing and mildly affordable pair in the shops i get even more excited.
So those of you with a worn-down, distressed pair of red shoes, just sitting there, neglected, in your closet (Marielle), pulling them out and wearing once, if only once, would make my day!

p.s. what do you think about the bag i was considering in the last post? i really like it, but i don't know if it has a bit too much of a little girl vibe going?

Total and utter amazement. This photo encompasses everything I am looking forward to about summer. Plain, Slouchy T-shirts; Feathers/Scarfs/Ribbons in long (hopefully by then) hair and Freckles.
And freckles is the point i want to make right now. Most people who have them hate them and spend their whole lives covering them up, and usually people without then are glad they don't have them. But i fall into some other category. I have many freckles. On my arms, on my legs, on my face, and even very noticeably on my lips.
But you know what, I like them. They are about as close to a tan as i get, and every year there is usually one morning when i wake up and all of a sudden, my freckles are double as dark as they were the day before, and it makes me happy.

Excuse the language. So excited, I'm ordering (well mum's credit card is doing the ordering) a couple of things from American Apparel tonight! I'm going for a few absolute basics that i'll mix and match throughout the summer.
I'm hoping to have a really minimalist vibe going this summer with a plain t-shirt, cut off jeans or a sweet little skirt and sandals, with main inspiration coming from the above photo and these two:
(minus blazer though, won't be needing that for scorching heat)

(sooo perfect)

So heres what I'll be ordering

(I'm not sure if the mustard colour is in or out at the moment, but to tell you the truth, i don't care either way)

Fallen in the right direction

I don't know about you fellow international bloggers (international being anywhere not part of the main hype of the USA or Europe), but there is one influential celebrity who i hardly hear anything about, who i think should be given a bit more credit that what she is currently receiving. And who may that be? Well Scarlett Johansson of course!

It may just be my isolation from the big scary celebrity world, and my naivety about the decent-ness of some actor-turned-singers, but a few months ago when i heard a few of her songs, i was shocked! i didn't really want to admit it, but i really like it, and in a bid to not be viewed as just another teeny-bopper following the hype of another celebrity with a new poppy hit, i chose to just ignore the song and pretend i never enjoyed it.

And now it's a few months later, i have heard nothing more of Miss Johansson on the airwaves or the grapevine, and have decided its safe to awaken my 'Scarlett Johansson fan-ness' from hibernation, and tell you all.

I have to say what i like about her songs is the non-pop-ness (I've said '....-ness' 3 times now haha)and the fact that her videos have a certain blasé feel that i am hoping to recreate in the summer riding on my cruiser bike oblivious to the world around me.

So check out here for Scarlett Johansson in full glory. And if shes some big hit in the US that Australia just hasn't heard about, why not just take another listen.

i've decided i'll keep this going. just keep plodding along blogging whenever i can and i'll see hows it goes.

today i've been making bows. i made four. a plaid bluey/sea greeny one, a blue and white striped one and two smaller ones that are a mixture of a blue material with a small little white pattern, different blue and white stripes and yellow and white stripe centre. i'm really excited to wear them in my hair on bobby pins.

oh and yesterday at the markets i bought 3 hilarious/cute-at-the-same-time scarves. one is white and green grassy-ish with a poem and picture about the english royal family in the middle! the other has 'birds of Australia' and is orange and white. the third is a lighter orange and has a map of New Zealand in the middle. haha i'm also excited to wear them in my hair during summer, makes me feel a lot like Sadie the Cleaning Lady.

Oh yeah, scarves and bows in hair won't be at the same time (hopefully for my friend's sake-how embarrassing for them walking around with a friend with a material shop exploding out of her head)

jsut then i got a bit handy with the paint, and made a how-to on diy bows.
enjoy!

step one: choose your piece of material. size really depends on the size you want for your bow. but if you fold it horizontally and then vertically, that should be the approximate size of your finished product

step two: fold material with right side on the inside and sew along edge

step three: turn you're now-tube the right way around and adjust it so the seam is in the middle (just makes it look neater)

step four: insert one end of the tube inside the other end and sew together

step five: get another piece of smaller material to go around the centre of the bow (can be same material or not- be creative!)

step six: gather the middle of your bow with your fingers(make sure its in the middle)

step seven: wrap the smaller piece of material around the middle where you have gathered it

step eight: sew the two ends of the smaller material together to keep the bow in place. You may want to sew it to the actual bow itself jsut to keep it extra sturdy.

and Voila!!!
You have a bow.

Oh and by the way this only took me 20 minuted the first time, a very quick project!

To be or not to be

I'm really unsure about this blog at the moment. I don't really know why but i kinda want to just press pause on it/completely cut it. Because right now is my busiest time of the year like always, I'm full on training and although i don't care about school work at the moment I want to stay on top, and having a blog at the same time just kinda adds more pressure.
And i feel like starting over in say a months time would be a good idea because all this stress will be over. And I'll have more time because school will be null on the radar, my friends will all be in Germany so I'll have a lot of time, and I'll be altering my schools hours so i can have more time to chillax.
I'm not too sure though whether to delete this blog or jsut kinda stop posting and then start again?
Any ideas?

Anyways tomorrow I'm going to the West End markets, which is Brisbane's attempt at being cool. I'm really excited and although I'm saving up for NUMEROUS things, i don't think I'll be able to resist from buying whatever charming things i come across.
This is what I plan on wearing + my denim jacket that i BLEACHED the other day! but thats another story... if there is another. (how dramatic did that sound)

Yes it's that time of year again, ekka!! When we line up for hours in huge crowds, get ripped off at all the stalls, and try to scab as many freebies as possible.
For anyone who doesn't hail from Brisbane, Ekka is like our version of the Royal Easter Show i guess, so there are heaps of cows and horses and goats etc. and then theres all the rides and international food etc.
This year one of my babe-ish friends Sai was in the Face of the Ekka model search, AND SHE WON! So watch out for her in New York, London and Milan in the near future. So we just went along pretty much only to watch her, and we weren't too keen on spending any money, so we just chilled at the Woolworths Food pavilion and checked out the fashion show a few times.
Speaking of the fashion show, apart from Sai modelling in it, it was a bit of a let down (although i was expecting anything big from it anyway). Everything was just a bit too, i don't know, uncreative/not inspiring, but t was fun none-the-less.
Anyways here are a few happy snaps of our day.

You know what really stumped me though, was what to wear. It had to be warm enough, comfortable, not too dressy, but i also wasn't keen on a country bumpkin look either.
So after a while thinking it over and over and over i decided on:
High waisted olive-green skirt, striped cardi/sweater, brown weaved belt, navy leggings and black boots.
And then that was still a bit boring so i scrounged around mum's drawers and found this random scarf to tie around my neck.

Ultra Floaty Florals and Tailored Trenches...

...Is not how i would describe these next few inspirations but, when you need a title, you need a title. Anyways, I was browsing net-a-porter last night and came across a few items that really got me thinking/crying out to my mother in amazement.
Firstly, these two creations by See by Chloe and Miu Miu, I believe are just crying out to me. They definitely suffice my need for colour, in fact the Miu Miu shift takes it about a few (thousand) steps further. i don't really know at all what attracts me to it because really, its just a rip off a clown suit, and i know 90% of people probably find it repulsive. But i have all respect for anyone besides a clown, who dares to pull it off.
And then the See by Chloe skirt. Total and utter perfection. Its a statement skirt I can imagine doing so much with.

While recapping on the images i had saved, i came across a common occurrence. Lacy Cocktail dresses. i didn't really realise i liked them so much until the 'net-a-porter' folder on my computer proved otherwise. The 3 standouts are: A gray organza cocktail dress with black tulle and sequin embroidery by Anna Sui; a cream silk dress with lace front and black satin dress with lace cutouts, both by Thurley.
Need I explain more?

And finally the shoes. Elaborate, eccentric, over-the-top, statement shoes. Ive realised i'm really drawn the pieces that the majority will hate, and a select few appreciate. i know they are a bit out there, but just imagine the reaction you would get wearing them!

sorry about the title, i had no inspiration and that was the first thing i heard from the tv (yes a bit of a sunrise fan, how pathetic),
so in the last week or 2 i've been considering ordering some stuff from american apparel and the only problem i have is that there's so many clothes to choose from and i don't know what to get.
more on that later, i have a few things in mind and i'll get some pictures and links up next time when i can be bothered.
i thought i'd introduce you all to my life outside of this blog.
this is my normal attire 4 days a week between the hours of 4-7am. yes thats right. i row.

so to anyone fashion-conscience who is considering taking up a sport, i would probably recommend tennis and the most fashionable. you know, some times i just love the outfits the likes of Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic rock out in. Rowing would probably be down the very bottom of flattering/fashionable acceptable attire.

and heres one of my sisters wedding just for good measure, it was about a month ago and to be honest, extremely boring

who would have thought.
me actually embracing a body con trend. it has been around for a bit of a looonnnggg while (i remember having photos of christopher kane's body con collection on my myspace when i FIRST made it, myspace, oh myspace), and i never really thought it'd ever get into it.
firstly i don't have the body suited to donning this somewhat unforgiving style, and secondly, i have not once seen a nice body con dress in any of the usual shops i buy in.
But then all of a sudden in the last few weeks a decided i actually really like the whole body con thing, and i might be able to pass it off with a few alterations.

i pulled out an old black skirt from my Auckland University Conservatory of Music performing days (they're into starting kids young...kiwis), and seeing as its a lot tighter on me now than it was when i was 10, i plan on shortening it, altering the waist slightly, and adding a massive metal zip right down the middle.

Colour my world

Theres something about bright colours that just attracts me to them. I've never been one to go for a totally monochrome outfit, and always end up adding something bright, all just going all out top to tail bright colours (may not be aesthetically pleasing, but hey, it makes me happy).
The other day while thinking aloud i think i came up with the reason why colours have always been appealing. A few years ago back in the primary school days everyone always told me how i looked so much older for my age. So in some attempt to hide this, or make myself look younger (in hindsight, looking older than you actually are isn't all bad-in fact sometimes it's great), i would dress is bright, pretty colours.
Very girly, pumpkin-patchy and i have to say i was definitely a child victim of the nineties.

So I think it's only natural that, although my taste for bright colours has toned down a lot, there are still some times I'm sucked right back in.
They just make me so happy!

revamp

so i had a bit of a shuffle through my wardrobe a while ago. found quite a few things that were either outdated/ needed a big of a revamp to get them up to scratch.

this dress was one i bought at salvos about 6 months ago. it used to be about knee length with elbow length sleeves, and really just a tad too old-fashioned and frumpy.

so i got out the scissors and sewing machine, hacked a few inches of and heres the result.

i also thought it was time the old denim jacket saw the light of day again

h&m please

Thought I would recap on a little shopping expedition i had with my mum last weekend.
We intended, of course, to only go and buy 2 pairs of stockings and some bobby pins, but of course, were side tracked, as Witchery, Country Road and Sportsgirl beckoned.
(Well, mum didn't really enjoy Sportsgirl, but hey i didn't really enjoy Jag or Sportscraft so it was all fair)
So we were browsing through Witchery when the sales assistant came up as per usual, 'hi, how can i help you?' 'Oh, I'm just looking thanks.'
But it went further than that.
She then proceeded to ask me about my top (h & m when a friend visited Germany), and we started talking about our NEED for h&m to come to Australia.
All these big companies are alllll over the world. But they fail to take it that one step further to Australia.

Not only are we deprived of h&m, but also American Apparel, Forever21 etc.
Anyone else have this need to international companies?

I would cruise around my neighborhood on my cruiser bike

wearing an American Apparel sheer white t-shirt

my cut off levis

with canvas sneakers on my feet

and a canvas school bag on my bag

packed with all sorts of delectable things and vintage pieces

i would ride down to the park and picnic the afternoon away with friends.

unfortunately for me, a perfect world requires money, which requires a job.
and at this stage that is something i haven't got (well if you don't count subway during the school holidays, but $7.59/hour is minimum wage anyway).
what i also won't have is friends during the summer holidays, due to their group travels around the world, while i slave away in a rowing boat all day. so really, the picnics will be with myself, and they only place i will be sharing it is on a blog.

but hey, when i get that bike, it will be pretty marvelous.
and i'm sure there will be other lone souls out there waiting for me to meet them.

i went to see the school musical last night. it was called Pipedreams (didn't mean for it to relate to title, i just opened the dictionary and that was the first thing i saw), and i have to say it was rather hilarious.

after much thought sitting on my bed last night staring at my wardrobe i came to the decision that:
this netball awards dinner will be extremely lame; i don't really want to go; i'm just going to dress how i feel like.
so im hoping to get this pair of slim leg 3/4 jodhpur-ish black pants from witchery. unfortunately i cant find a photo of them but anyhows.
and i will wear an extremely old black lace shirt of mums that i discovered yesterday with them. the shirt is long sleeved, see through vintage lace. i'm not too sure how good it will look, but if it turns out a mess well, i'll just scrap that idea and chuck on anything.
it's not like netballers are fashionable. they are more the fashion sense that is bought kinda girls ala previously

i found out today that i have a semi-formal netball awards dinner next saturday night.

that sounds good i thought. i have plenty of clothes to choose from. and then i read further on the invitation and realise it says theme: red, black and white. (those are the associations colours).

dilemma 1: i dont have any semi-formal/ cocktail dress kind of things in red, black or white. (well not any half-decent things at least).

dilemma 2: i dont know whether to actually take this colour theme seriously or just ignore and do my own thing.

dilemma 3: i dont want to buy anything new if avoidable.

ive been wanting to recreate this diy from teenvogue for a while now:

and it would fit in with the theme without being overly 'themey' (if that makes any sense). And i think i would do it sans the black ribbon becasue i think that adds a bit of a tacky edge that wouldnt be appreciated at a snobby netball function.

well i dont know what to do.

i have this picture in my head of two dresses i am very eager to create.
and they both revolve around bird silhouettes.
one of the many times i was surfing the information superhighway that is the Internet i came across this photo of Kirsten Dunst and was utterly inspired

further research into the creatures stitched onto her dress led me to these findings

and by this point i was totally hooked onto bird silhouettes. then earlier on tonight i was once again searching the blogosphere and found a lovely blog called the 16 diaries
and was roaming my way throught her archives when i found her post on the RAFW and i discovered that Michelle Jank is another designer who had a bit of a fetish for birds this season

i am now totally inspired to create a masterpiece like this.
i don't know what this masterpiece will turn out like, whether it be clothing or jewelry or anything, but i am determined to incorporate birds into my look.
whatever 'my look' is.

just need to have a little rant at the boringness of brisbane. pretty much the fashion dud of australia.
there are a few little niches of fashion-inspiring-ness like parts of the valley and west end, but apart from that there's just a big void of copy-everyone/boring-ness.

there are all the school kids (yes i am i school kid but hopefully not in this category) who either a. buy their fashion sense, and well, so darl but thats not really how it works. they strut around like they own the place in all their city beach/roxy/billabong/everyone-owns-the-same-pair-of high-waisted shorts kinda clothes and quite frankly it bores me. and also doesn't show any hint of personality or individuality.
and then there's b. the kids who walk around in huge fluoro cotton on or similar jumpers , ugg boots, and some kind of short short or skinny jean. This is the group that also tend to wear flannelettes.
and if i really wanted to get picky i could talk about the kids who are just a hige walking sports label, lorna jane headband, nike top, puma track pants, converse socks, adidas shoes etc.

and then one day, someone different will come along. someone with modern and edgy, or classic and perfect style will come along, and it quite literally stops me in the street in amazement.
maybe i need to search the streets for these gems of inspiration.
or just sit around complaining about the lack of them

yesterday a bought a pair of knee high socks. ive wanted them for a while as a different alternative to stockings, and yesterday they were on sale in sportsgirl for $4.95 so i thought why not?
ive got quite a few outfits running through my head, and have also been checking out some sites for inspiration.
i think theres a few different ways you can do the knee sock

beispiel 1:
school-boy/preppy
with the blazer, short shorts and simple shirt/tee/jumper.

you probably need legs like ^ to pull it off effectively aswell

beispiel 2:
whimsical summer dress & knee highs. i really like this because the socks give the dress more of an edge (and keep you warm perhaps not-so-summery days or summer nights)

high gym socks and hot pants. probably would never dare going out in public like this- perhaps only to the gym if im in an overly-eccentric mood- but i really like this idea for chilling around the house or at a friends place.

Floral Dr Martens. I'm am still clinging to the hope that i will a) save up for them somehow b) convince parents to buy them out of necessity (because they really ARE necessary), and yes it has only been a day since the last post on these beautifully ugly shoes, but my situation so far isn't looking any better.
On a positive note though my situation isn't getting any worse.
And come to think of it, it's not really a 'situation' I'm in. Just lust over a seemly unattainable object.

Anyhow the point is, i was surfing the blogosphere, and came across Moohoop and her blog, the fashion void that is DC. This is where i discovered someone who actually owns a pair of FLORAL DMs.

Floral Dr Martens. I love them so much. They are my latest obsession/need that will never be fulfilled. Why? Because it's not like i have a spare $200 lying about. Yes $200 and thats at an outlet shop, discounted.
There's this one pair that are so breathtakingly amazing that i walk past every time i got to the gym and it kills be a bit inside everytime i realise how long it will take me to save for them/convince my mum to buy them for me.
And the main culprits are:

I think the reason i love them so much is because the floral pattern takes away a bit of the dero/bogan/overly masculine look but the big chunky sole and laces still keep that edge.

Picasso Picasso. Right here is where i wish i could write some witty/nerdy/interesting statement about the wonders of Picasso and all his inspirational artworks.
But really.
Today we went to the Picasso exhibition at the GalleryofModernArt. It was cool, and some of the drawings/paintings/works were really quite something. But honestly, in some cases i liked the frame better than the actually picture. Shame on me.
I just dont have that much of an appreciation for some types of art. I could sit round for hours reading books/surfing net for more modern-graphic-design-ie work, or street art or something like that, but theres something about walking around an art gallery in the freezing cold, and standing at a painting for hours that really gets to me.
But it was an experience, so i'd recommend the Picasso exhibition to anyone planning on dropping into Brisbane.

JuneJuly Holidays. After summer holidays, would have to be my favourite time of year. Mainly because: i get 2 weeks to just chillax and do nothing, because its too cold for holidays at the beach and no school means no uniform which means a whole wardrobe full of clothes to select from every morning.
It also means all the 'to-do-lists' in my diary from the previous 10 weeks of school can be fulfilled. Put up picture frames, redecorate room and finish all the diy fashion jobs lying about.

I was having a bit of a skwizz on Teen Vogue a few weeks ago when i found this photo of Erin Featherston. And i have to say i find it amazing. Her skirt is so original and simple and sweet. But i guess, fair enough, shes a designer, she should be dressing like that, but i still can't get over how much i love this skirt.
I'm also loving the sailor, horizontal striped tops that have been aorund now for yonks. Vogue Australia had a few in a shoot about 4 months ago and it was totally inspirational. I need to find myself one.

And touching on more inspirations. Kate Bosworth. Where has she ever gone wrong?
She always dons something chic and simple and always seems to get it exactly right.
Either she, or her stylist, has impeccable taste.

i'm absolutely raving. been surfing the blogs for a while tonight, when i decided to head over to cafe mode. AMAZING. they all have such impeccable style. its simple and unique and man i wish i could pull it off.

this girl would have to be my favourite. the braces on her skirt, the socks, the blouse. and the colours of her bag and shoes just match so perfectly. amazing.

this blog is to ultimately satisfy the needs of 4 teenage girls while on opposite sides of the world. clothes and shoes and all the important things that emails and myspace comments just won't cover.
but first ill take this time to post this photo. a favourite from philip lim a few seasons ago, possibly the coolest and simplest outfit. it adequately fulfils my needs for a morning dose of fashion. better get going to school for FINAL ASSESSMENT.
